Around the Farm!

"Even without a rider I will always be a charger of the gods, but a man without a horse will only be a man." -Robert Vavra

From the time we enter school we are taught that the attainment of success is directly proportionate to the degree of struggle we expend on it.  We are told to study harder to get better grades and run more laps to make the football team.  Then, we climb onto a horse, a timid creature of flight, which knows nor cares anything about the puritan work ethic, and we drive him crazy.  The very act of trying brings tension and rigidity; the horse responds to our stress with his stress, and the downward spiral begins.

Here at , our goal is to lay the foundation for an emotionally sound horse.  As John Lyons says, “The better trained a horse is emotionally, the more safe he’ll be to work around.”  We prepare our foals to be willing and relaxed students by developing a relationship based on a self awareness and understanding that is natural and non-threatening to a horse.

We’ve studied many training techniques such as those taught by Dr. Robert Miller, John Lyons, Pat Parelli, Mike Kevil, Brenda Imus and many more natural horse people.  We fully IMPRINT TRAIN our newborn foals intensely during their first two weeks of life.  After that, they get to be just a horse for awhile.  This gives them the opportunity to crave human attention as they observe the rest of the herd interacting with their people friends.  Soon, the foal will decide for itself that s/he wants what the other horses have; submits to us and “joins up” as Monty Roberts would say.  At this point, we have captured their heart and a strong bond of trust is formed.  This bond will ultimately transfer to all future people friends.  Over the course of their first year, using a relaxed but clear approach, we gently expose our babies to many things.

When you purchase one of our foals you’ll enjoy a safe and trusting horse that simply needs basic ground work training continued and good nutrition maintained and of course, lots of loving care!  When your colt is physically mature enough for performance training, s/he’ll also be very emotionally mature making the transition to performance demands less stressful.  It’s very rewarding and lots of fun working with the youngsters – they are so eager to please!
